Instructions/Setup:


In this rondo drill, players work on maintaining possession and executing quick switches to progress the ball to the opposite side of the grid. The attacking team starts in a 4v2 situation on one side, with two players waiting on the other side to receive the ball once it has been transferred. This helps to develop the ability to switch play quickly and accurately, maintaining possession under pressure.


The setup encourages continuous movement, with players having to constantly rotate and adapt to changing situations. The ball is transferred to the opposite side after a set number of passes, and the players on the central line must switch with the outer players to keep the flow of the drill going.



Coaching Notes:


• Quick Passing and Movement: Emphasize the need for fast, accurate passes and constant movement to create passing lanes. Players must anticipate the ball and be ready to move into space immediately.


• Timing of the Switch: The switch must happen at the right moment, ensuring that players on the receiving end of the pass are ready to control and maintain possession under pressure.


• Spatial Awareness: Players should always be scanning the area to identify the best passing options and anticipate where the ball will be played next.


• Communication: Constant communication is essential to ensure players are aware of their positioning and when to execute the switch, especially with the outer players involved in the rotation.



Progression 1: Increase the Number of Passes Before Switching:


Extend the number of passes the possession team must complete before switching the ball. This forces players to hold possession longer, improving their ability to maintain control under pressure.


Focus: Encourages players to develop patience and composure when under pressure, and promotes improved passing accuracy over longer sequences.
