Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: X

  • In this drill, players work on their passing technique and footwork while engaging in quick ball movement. The drill involves two interjoined diamond shapes with a cone in the center, where players pass the ball, follow their pass, and focus on maintaining fluid movement in different directions. The goal is to develop a sense of timing, accuracy, and speed while working with two balls simultaneously.

The setup consists of two diamond patterns placed side by side, with one cone in the middle where both diamonds converge. Players pass the ball around the diamonds, following their passes and working through the different directions. The drill emphasizes quick footwork, precise passing, and seamless transitions as players work in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions with two balls.

  • • Passing Accuracy: Emphasize the importance of making accurate passes to the next player. Players should focus on delivering passes with the right weight and precision, ensuring the ball travels smoothly to the receiving player.

    • Quick Follow and Movement: Players must quickly follow their pass and be ready to receive or make the next pass. Speed and fluidity are key as players transition between the different sides of the diamond.

    • Focus on Body Shape: Encourage players to position their bodies correctly when receiving and passing. They should always be facing the next pass to ensure fluid transitions and avoid unnecessary delays.

    • Awareness of Space: Players should always be aware of their teammates’ movements and anticipate the next pass. This awareness will help improve the timing of the drill and make the transitions more seamless.

  • Add a Directional Change After Each Pass:

After each pass, players must change direction (e.g., clockwise to counter-clockwise or vice versa) to increase the intensity and challenge players to adjust their positioning and movement.

Focus: Encourages quick decision-making, improves players' ability to adjust their body shape on the move, and develops greater control when changing directions.

  • Introduce a Third Ball:

Add a third ball into the drill, increasing the tempo and encouraging players to work even faster. Players should maintain their passing rhythm while being mindful of the additional ball and avoid unnecessary delays.

Focus: Increases the intensity of the drill, forcing players to think quicker and work on their ability to maintain precise passing under pressure, improving their decision-making speed.
