Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 12 | Pitch size: 40x30

  • The practice begins with an unopposed forward pass into the central player. Once the central player takes their first touch, it becomes a live 3v2 attacking scenario, where the attacking team of 3 attempts to score. If the attacking team scores, the play restarts and the opposite team begins their attacking phase. However, if the defending team wins possession, they immediately transition into a counter-attack. Counter-attacking goals are rewarded with double points, as they require both a possession regain and a completed 3v2 scenario.

  • • Quick Transition & Decision Making – Encourage quick thinking and fast decision-making for both the attacking and defending teams. Attackers should look to exploit the overload quickly, while defenders should aim to regain possession and launch an immediate counter.

    • Movement & Support in Attack – The attacking team should focus on off-the-ball movement to create space for each other. Players must be aware of the best options to exploit the 3v2 overload and pass quickly to maintain fluidity.

    • Defensive Positioning & Compactness – Defenders need to stay compact and work together to delay the attacking team. They should always be aware of the attackers' positioning, trying to funnel them into less dangerous areas, while preparing to quickly counter when they win possession.

    • Counter-Attack Speed – The defending team, once they win possession, must transition quickly to take advantage of the numerical advantage in the counter-attack. This requires fast ball circulation and accurate passing to complete the attack.

  • Add a Third Defender

Introduce a third defender for the defending team, making it a 3v3 situation for the counter-attacking phase. This will challenge the attacking team to maintain fluidity while adding more pressure to the counter-attack.

Focus: Improve attacking and defensive awareness while making quick decisions under pressure.

  • Set Time Limit for Counter-Attack

Introduce a time limit for the counter-attacking phase (e.g., 10 seconds to score after regaining possession). This encourages the defending team to act quickly and the attacking team to handle the pressure of a fast transition.

Focus: Enhance the speed and efficiency of counter-attacks while maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
