Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch

  • In this drill, both the attacker and defender begin side by side before sprinting off at angled directions to create separation and space. As the attacker moves forward, they receive a pass from the coach to initiate the 1v1 duel. The attacker must use speed, skill, and decision-making to beat the defender and finish by scoring in the main goal. This setup replicates real-game situations where players need to create space quickly before engaging in a duel under pressure.

The drill focuses on explosive first movements, quick transitions from sprinting to ball control, and sharp finishing under defensive pressure. It also challenges defenders to track and close down attackers effectively while maintaining balance and positioning.

  • • Encourage explosive, angled sprints to create immediate separation – Players must use strong acceleration and sharp angles to gain an advantage before receiving the ball.

    • Demand attackers maintain composure and control after the sprint – Effective first touch and ball control are vital to set up the 1v1 attack smoothly.

    • Reinforce defenders’ focus on quick recovery and positioning – Defenders should anticipate the attacker’s moves and adjust body shape to force less dangerous angles.

    • Emphasize precise and composed finishing under pressure – Attackers must focus on accuracy and timing when shooting to maximize scoring chances.

  • Add a Time Limit to Finish

Introduce a strict time limit for attackers to complete the 1v1 and shoot, increasing urgency and decision-making speed.

Focus: Improve speed of execution and quick thinking under pressure.
