Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: 15x15

  • This drill begins with the full back passing the ball out wide to the winger, simulating a turnover or loss of possession. The winger then immediately attacks in a tight 1v1 scenario within a confined zone, aiming to beat the full back by using quick, skillful dribbling to create space. The attacker’s objective is to score by passing or dribbling into one of two mini goals positioned in the zone. This setup encourages the winger to use sharp 1v1 moves, feints, and changes of pace to exploit defensive gaps and openings effectively.

The drill develops close control, quick decision-making, and individual attacking skills under pressure. It also helps the defender improve their positioning, anticipation, and tackling in a realistic defensive duel that replicates common match situations on the flank.

  • • Encourage attackers to use varied 1v1 moves and changes of pace – Players should focus on unpredictable dribbling to create space and beat their defender effectively.

    • Demand defenders maintain a low, balanced stance and read body language – Full backs must stay alert, use quick footwork, and anticipate the attacker’s intentions to block passing lanes.

    • Reinforce quick decision-making and timing of attacking runs – Wingers need to assess when to accelerate, cut inside, or pass to exploit openings decisively.

    • Emphasize controlled finishing into mini goals under pressure – Attackers should focus on accuracy and composure when selecting the correct mini goal to score.

  • Narrow the Attack Zone

Reduce the width of the attacking zone to increase pressure on the winger, forcing quicker decisions and sharper dribbling skills.

Focus: Enhance close control, spatial awareness, and rapid execution under tight defensive pressure.
