Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 40x50

  • This drill focuses on developing quick, effective counter attacks in a 3v2 attacking scenario. Play begins with three attackers moving quickly against two defenders in one direction, aiming to create scoring opportunities through fast combination play and decisive finishing. Once this phase concludes, the same two defenders immediately transition to defend against another 3v2 counter attack moving in the opposite direction. This back-to-back sequence challenges defenders to maintain concentration and positioning under sustained pressure, while attackers work on rapid decision-making and exploiting numerical advantages.

The continuous nature of the drill enhances players' stamina, communication, and transition speed between attacking and defending. It simulates real match situations where teams must quickly react to turnovers and launch immediate counter attacks or recover defensively with high intensity.

  • • Encourage attackers to exploit numerical advantage quickly – Players should focus on fast ball movement and smart positioning to create scoring chances early.

    • Demand high defensive concentration and communication – Defenders must stay organized, anticipate attackers’ runs, and communicate clearly throughout both phases.

    • Reinforce rapid transition between attacking and defending roles – Players must adjust quickly, maintaining sharpness and intensity in both phases without losing shape.

    • Emphasize effective finishing under pressure – Attackers should focus on calm, accurate shots while defenders apply close pressure to disrupt scoring attempts.

  • Reduce Recovery Time for Defenders

Shorten rest periods between defensive phases to increase physical and mental fatigue, simulating high-intensity match conditions.

Focus: Enhance stamina, resilience, and concentration under continuous pressure.

  • Add a Neutral Support Player

Introduce a neutral player who supports the attacking team, increasing passing options and complexity during counter attacks.

Focus: Improve decision-making and movement in overload situations.
