Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 1 | Pitch size: 10x10
This 1-to-1 technical passing drill is focused on sharp combination play, quick movement, and accurate decision-making. The player begins each rep by completing a short 1-2 pass before sprinting forward to receive a second pass from the coach. After receiving, they must play a well-weighted pass into one of two mini goals, encouraging scanning, timing, and execution.
• Accelerate Immediately After Playing the Initial Pass – Time your run sharply to arrive in rhythm for the next ball and maintain attacking momentum.
• Receive on the Back Foot to Open the Body – Angle your touch to face the mini goals instantly and create more passing options.
• Scan Both Mini Goals Before the Final Pass – Make a quick decision on which goal is best based on timing, space, and angle.
• Use a Quality Final Pass With Correct Weight – Deliver the ball with enough pace and precision to simulate a purposeful attacking pass.
Alternate the Side of the Final Pass
Encourage the player to vary which mini goal they pass into each rep to develop two-sided vision and decision-making.
Focus:
Improves passing accuracy, two-footed distribution, and awareness of available targets under time pressure.
Add a Passive Defender During the Second Phase
Place a passive defender between the player and the mini goals to apply light pressure and disrupt the passing lane.
Focus:
Enhances composure, timing of the final ball, and ability to adjust passing lines under defensive presence.
