Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 3 | Pitch size: 20x30

  • This mastery activation is a fantastic arrival activity, designed to allow players to get a high number of touches on the ball in a short space of time. The focus is on developing multiple skills in an unopposed environment, including passing, dribbling, and ball control.

Set up a grid (e.g., 10x10 meters) with cones or markers scattered throughout to create space for various drills. Players will engage in individual activities, alternating between passing sequences, dribbling, and technical touches.

Encourage players to incorporate different types of touches and skills, such as inside/outside touches, step-overs, feints, and quick turns during the dribbling phase.

  • • Variety of Skills – Encourage players to use a variety of touches and dribbling techniques during their activation, such as using the inside, outside, and sole of the foot. They should also work on feints, quick turns, and changes of direction to develop their agility and ball control.

    • Focus on Speed and Fluidity – Emphasize the importance of fluid movement when dribbling and passing. The key is to encourage players to maintain speed without sacrificing control. This will improve their ability to play at a higher tempo during matches.

    • Passing Accuracy – Players should focus on accurate short passes and one-touch passing during the activation. Encourage them to focus on keeping passes crisp and precise while engaging with the ball efficiently.

    • Engage Both Feet – Encourage players to use both feet during the dribbling and passing phases. This will ensure they develop their ability to be two-footed, improving their versatility and overall technical ability.

    • Work on Touch and Control – As players work through the technical activation, encourage them to focus on their first touch and ball control. A good first touch sets up the next action, whether it’s a pass or dribble.

  • Incorporate a Time Limit
Add a time limit to complete a series of skills or passes (e.g., 30 seconds or 1 minute) for each player. This forces them to accelerate the pace of their work while maintaining accuracy and technical ability.

    Focus:
Improves speed of play and helps players develop the ability to think and act quickly under pressure.

  • Add a Light Pressure
Introduce a light defender to create a mild pressure scenario where the attacking player must dribble or pass while being lightly pressured. This will simulate real match situations where players need to maintain technical ability while under defensive pressure.

    Focus:
Encourages players to focus on decision-making while still maintaining the technical aspects of their game, especially in tight spaces.
