Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 46x40

  • This progressive attacking practice is designed to build finishing actions through increasing levels of pressure and numerical complexity. Three attackers start with a ball each, positioned outside the main playing area.

Phase 1: The central attacker begins with a 1v0 finish against the goalkeeper, focusing on clean technique and composure. After completing the finish, they quickly recover their position to receive a second ball played in from one of the supporting attackers.

Phase 2: As the second ball is introduced, one defender becomes active, creating a 2v1 scenario. The two attackers must combine quickly to create another finishing opportunity.

Phase 3: Immediately after the second phase, the two attackers receive a pass from the third attacker, who joins the practice alongside a second defender. This creates a 3v2 attacking scenario, requiring fast combination play, movement and decision-making before finishing.

The practice flows continuously, challenging attackers to adapt as the numbers change while maintaining attacking intent.

  • • Composure in Phase One: Encourage clean technique and calm finishing in the unopposed phase.

    • Speed of Combination: Reinforce quick passes and movement as defenders are introduced.

    • Decision-Making Under Pressure: Coach attackers to recognise when to shoot, pass or carry as the overload evolves.

    • Attacking Movement: Emphasise supporting angles, depth and timing of runs to exploit numerical advantages.

  • Time Limit for Each Phase:
Introduce a strict time window for each attacking phase to maintain tempo and intensity.

Focus: Improves attacking urgency and speed of execution.

  • Add Recovery Runs:
Allow defenders to recover from different angles or distances to increase unpredictability.

Focus: Enhances realism and forces sharper attacking decisions.
