Practice Breakdown: 

Number of Players: 3 | Pitch size: 46x30

  • This reactive finishing practice develops decision-making, agility, and 1v1 attacking and defending. An attacker and a defender start by passing the ball back and forth. At any moment, the attacker can spin left or right and run through a designated gate to collect a ball and enter a 1v1 against the goalkeeper.

    Simultaneously, the defender must sprint through the opposite gate and attempt to recover in time to challenge the 1v1. This drill encourages quick thinking, explosive movement, and realistic attacking and defensive transitions under pressure.

  • • Attacker Decision-Making: Encourage scanning and quick choice of which direction to spin and attack.

    • First Touch and Control: Emphasise clean ball control when receiving through the gate to set up the 1v1 effectively.

    • Defensive Recovery: Reinforce explosive sprinting, anticipation and correct body positioning to challenge the attacker.

    • Finishing Execution: Coach composure and accuracy when finishing under pressure from the recovering defender.

  • Time Limit to Score:
    Introduce a 4–5 second limit for the attacker to finish after collecting the ball.

    Focus: Increases tempo and forces faster decision-making.
