Instructions/Setup:
In this drill, players are encouraged to beat a defender in a 1v1 scenario before scoring into one of the mini goals. The focus is on individual attacking skills and the ability to maintain possession under pressure, while also encouraging defenders to work on positioning and anticipation.
Play begins with the attacker attempting to beat the defender and score in the mini goal. If the attacker successfully scores, the defender remains as a defender and prepares to face a new attacker.
If the defender wins possession and manages to dribble over the end line, they switch roles and become the attacker, while the player who lost possession becomes the defender. This drill emphasizes continuous movement and the quick transition between attack and defense.
With three narrow channels available, a total of three individual practices can run simultaneously, reducing waiting times for players and increasing repetitions.
Coaching Notes:
• Attacking Creativity: Encourage attackers to use a variety of dribbling techniques, such as feints, quick changes of direction, and close control to beat the defender.
• Defensive Positioning: Defenders must focus on maintaining a strong defensive stance, staying close enough to pressure the attacker but also being ready to recover if the attacker changes direction.
• Quick Transitioning: The drill requires both players to transition quickly between attack and defense, so focus on the ability to switch mindsets and adapt rapidly to the changing situation.
• Decision-Making: Both the attacker and defender must make split-second decisions. Attackers must decide when to take on the defender, and defenders must assess whether to commit to a tackle or contain the attacker.
Progression 1: Add a Time Limit:
Introduce a time limit for attackers to score once they have beaten the defender, such as 10 seconds. This encourages quicker decision-making and faster attacks.
Focus: This progression aims to increase the tempo of the drill, forcing attackers to act decisively and defenders to react quickly to pressure.
