Instructions/Setup:


In this high-intensity possession drill, players work on speed, communication, and decision-making. The objective is to win possession inside a small grid and then sprint back to the poles to reset, all while maintaining clear communication with teammates.


The drill involves four teams of three players. Three teams are located inside separate 8x8-yard grids, while the fourth team is stationed on poles above each grid. At the coach's whistle, all three players in each grid must sprint to win possession of the ball. As soon as a team wins possession, all three players sprint back to their poles and the process repeats. This cycle continues for three rounds.



Coaching Notes:


• Communication and Teamwork: Encourage players to communicate clearly with each other, especially the player who wins possession. They should quickly relay the message for the other two teammates to sprint back to the poles, maintaining efficiency.


• Winning Possession: Players must work together to win possession through pressure and positioning, ensuring that the entire team is actively involved in the challenge.


• Speed and Reaction: Focus on the players’ ability to sprint back to their poles efficiently, improving their ability to react quickly and transition between offense and defense.


• Decision-Making: Players should be encouraged to make quick decisions when winning possession, choosing whether to pass immediately or maintain control of the ball, depending on the situation.



Progression 1: Add a Time Limit:


Implement a time limit for each round, where teams must win possession and return to their poles within a set time (e.g., 20 seconds). If they fail, they restart the round.


Focus: This progression increases urgency and speed, challenging players to work more efficiently in both possession and transition phases.
