Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x30
This unopposed technical passing drill focuses on improving players' ability to execute short, quick passes followed by longer, more penetrating passes. The drill helps players develop their passing range and the ability to switch between different types of passes in fluid situations.
In this drill, there are two balls working simultaneously, with players mirroring each other’s movements. After each pass, the player follows their pass around the cones to the next position to receive and pass again.
• Quick Decision-Making: Encourage players to make quick, accurate decisions when deciding whether to play a short or long pass, ensuring the timing of their passes is well-executed.
• Passing Technique: Focus on the quality of both the short and long passes. For the short passes, players should use the inside of the foot for accuracy, while long passes should be driven with the laces to cover more distance.
• Movement and Follow-up: Players should follow their pass to the next position, ensuring continuous movement and fluidity throughout the drill, simulating a game-like scenario where movement after the pass is crucial.
• Body Position: Players should be encouraged to receive the ball with their body open to the field, ensuring they are in a position to play the next pass quickly and efficiently.
Change the Length of Long Passes:
Adjust the length of the long passes in the drill, varying between a medium-range pass (30-40 yards) and a long-range pass (50+ yards). This variation helps players adapt to different passing distances.
Focus: This progression helps players build confidence and accuracy when varying the length of long passes, improving their versatility in different match situations.
