Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 3 | Pitch size: 20x20

  • In this drill, the attacker receives a pass back to goal while being tightly marked by a defender. The initial pass comes from a teammate and is played into the attacker’s feet, requiring the attacker to control the ball under pressure and prepare for a 1v1 confrontation. The attacker’s objective is to use skill moves and quick turns to create space and beat the defender.

Once the attacker has separated from the defender, they must spin around and score into the mini goal located behind them. This drill focuses on improving close control, deception, and finishing under pressure in tight areas, replicating scenarios attackers face in games when receiving back-to-goal.

  • • Encourage Sharp, Controlled First Touches to Shield the Ball Effectively – A good first touch helps the attacker maintain possession and sets up their ability to spin or dribble away from pressure.

    • Promote Use of Deception and Quick Changes of Direction – Skill moves like spins, step-overs, or feints should be used to create separation and confuse the defender.

    • Focus on Timing the Spin and Accelerating Away from the Defender – The attacker must choose the right moment to turn quickly and exploit any gaps before the defender can recover.

    • Stress Accuracy and Composure When Finishing Into the Mini Goal – After beating the defender, clean and confident shooting technique is critical to convert the opportunity successfully.

  • Limit the Attacker’s Touches Before Scoring

Restrict the attacker to a maximum of three touches after receiving the ball, encouraging sharper control, quicker decision-making, and more efficient execution.

Focus: Develops sharper technical skills and faster thinking to increase effectiveness in tight, high-pressure 1v1 scenarios.
