Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 30x45

  • This attacking practice is split into two connected grids to simulate progressive attacking phases. In the first zone, two attackers face one defender in a tight 2v1 scenario. The attackers must use combination play and dribbling skills to successfully beat the defender and carry the ball across the line into the second zone.

Once the attacker successfully dribbles past the defender and over the boundary into the second zone, they join two teammates to face two defenders in the penalty area. This creates a 3v2 overload, emphasizing quick decision-making, combination play, and clinical finishing under pressure in a realistic attacking environment.

  • • Encourage Close Control and Effective Use of Feints in the 2v1 to Beat the Defender – Sharp dribbling and clever body movement are key to creating space and progressing the attack.

    • Promote Quick Communication and Combination Play Between Attacking Players – Passing and movement off the ball should be fluid to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities in the 3v2.

    • Focus on Maintaining Width and Depth in the Second Zone to Stretch the Defense – Creating space between defenders opens passing lanes and shooting opportunities in tight penalty area scenarios.

    • Stress Composure and Accuracy When Finishing Under Pressure – Players must remain calm and choose the best shooting option quickly to capitalize on the overload advantage.

  • Make the First Defender More Aggressive

Increase the pressure in the first zone by allowing the defender to engage more aggressively and attempt interceptions, raising the difficulty of dribbling into the second zone.

Focus: Enhances attackers’ dribbling under pressure and ability to maintain possession while progressing play into the penalty area.

  • Add a Neutral Player to Support the Attackers

Introduce a neutral attacker who supports the team in both zones, increasing passing options and encouraging more dynamic combination play.

Focus: Improves attacker creativity and movement off the ball, increasing complexity and decision-making in attacking phases.
