Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 11 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch

  • Play starts with a 4v2 rondo in the central area. The team of 4 in possession must complete a minimum of five passes before playing a pass into either of the two wide players positioned on the outside. Upon successfully passing the ball into the wide players, they will initiate a 3v2 attack, with the two wide players and the centre forward attacking against two defenders. If the defending team in the rondo manages to win possession while being outnumbered 2v4, they can counterattack and attempt to score in the main goal.

  • • Rondo Principles – Ensure the team in possession focuses on quick, accurate passing to maintain control and create opportunities for forward passes into the wide players. Encourage players to move to open spaces and provide passing options.

    • Wide Player Awareness – The wide players must focus on their positioning and timing when receiving the ball. They should be aware of the defenders and be ready to cut inside or make a quick cross for the centre forward.

    • Attacking Combinations – The two wide players and the centre forward should focus on combining quickly once the ball is passed into the wide areas. Quick passes and intelligent movements are essential to break down the defenders in a 3v2 situation.

    • Defensive Pressure – The defenders in the rondo need to apply constant pressure to win the ball, while also being aware of the counterattack opportunities once possession is regained. Focus on recovery speed and communication.

  • Add a Time Limit for the Rondo
Introduce a time limit (e.g., 30 seconds) for the team in possession to make the five passes. If they fail, the defending team switches roles.
Focus: Adds pressure to the attacking team, simulating game scenarios where quick ball circulation is essential.

  • Add a 3rd Defender to the Attack
Allow the attacking team to add a third player into the wide area, creating a 3v3 situation. This encourages the attacking team to break down the defenders with more options in the wide areas.
Focus: Forces the defending team to be more disciplined in their defensive organization and requires attackers to make quicker decisions in tight situations.
