Salzburg Tag & Touch Rondo #2
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 14 | Pitch size: 20x20
This variation keeps the same structure as the Salzburg Touch & Tag Rondo #1 but is played as a 4v2 in each grid. Set up two possession boxes side by side with three teams. Two teams start as the possession sides (one in each grid), and the third team works as defenders/pressers.
On the coach’s signal, two defenders sprint together into one of the grids, creating a 4v2 situation. Their aim is to press aggressively and win possession or force the ball out of play. Once this happens, The defenders immediately sprints out of the grid to tag waiting teammates, who then sprint into the next grid and again attempt to win possession. This continues for a set time period before rotating roles between teams. The practice promotes high-intensity pressing, quick reactions and sharp possession under pressure.
• Play Away from Pressure: Encourage the possession team to recognise where the two defenders are pressing from and move the ball quickly into safer areas.
• Support and Shape: Coach players to maintain good spacing and angles to keep at least two passing options available to the ball-carrier at all times.
• Defensive Coordination: Emphasise communication between the two pressers so one applies direct pressure while the other covers passing lanes and anticipates interceptions.
• Intensity and Recovery: Highlight the need for defenders to enter at full speed, work intensely for short periods, then recover while teammates press the opposite grid.
Limit Touches for Possession Teams:
Apply a two-touch limit for players in both grids. This increases the speed of circulation and forces players to adopt sharper angles and quicker support movements.
Focus: Improves quick combinations, ball circulation and off-ball timing.
Add Directional Targets for Defenders:
When a defender wins the ball, they must play into a designated mini target or bounce pass to a coach before sprinting out to tag a teammate. This adds purpose to the press and rewards clean regains.
Focus: Encourages controlled defensive actions and purposeful transitions after winning possession.
