Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 40x36

  • This finishing practice is built around two consecutive attacking phases, encouraging combination play, movement and composure in front of goal. Play begins with two attackers working together to create penetrating combinations, aiming to break through and produce a finish into the first goal.

Immediately after the first attempt, a third attacker joins with a second ball. The two original players must quickly adjust their positioning and combine again with the new player, creating a second attacking phase that leads to another finishing opportunity in the opposite goal. The practice flows continuously and challenges players to maintain technical quality, timing and decision-making across multiple actions.

  • • Quality of Combinations: Encourage sharp, purposeful passing with clear intent to penetrate defensive lines and eliminate pressure quickly.

    • Movement After the First Finish: Reinforce quick recovery and intelligent repositioning to support the second phase without standing still.

    • Communication Between Attackers: Emphasise verbal and non-verbal cues to coordinate movements, timing and supporting angles effectively.

    • Composure in Front of Goal: Coach calm execution and correct finish selection despite repeated actions and rising physical fatigue.

  • Touch Limit on Attackers:
Restrict players to two touches per action to increase tempo and force quicker combinations and decision-making.

Focus: Improves speed of play, technical sharpness and execution under increased pressure.

  • Add a Passive Defender:
Introduce a passive defender who applies light pressure during both phases to increase realism and scanning demands.

Focus: Develops awareness, movement under pressure and finishing composure in more game-like scenarios.
