Sociedad 3v2 Cross & Finish

Instructions/Setup:

Play starts with a pass into an unopposed winger positioned on one side of the grid. The winger’s task is to deliver crosses into the box for the attacking players. Upon receiving the ball, the three attackers must sprint across the grid and enter the box, creating a 3v2 attacking scenario.

Once the play concludes, the roles reset, and a new 3v2 attack begins from the opposite side of the grid. The winger can either turn and cross directly or play a quick combination with one of the three attackers before delivering the cross into the box.

Coaching Notes:

• Timing of Runs: Attackers should time their runs well to arrive in the box at the right moment, ensuring they are prepared to receive the cross while defenders are still tracking them.

• Crossing Techniques: Encourage the winger to vary their crossing technique—driven balls, lofted crosses, and cutbacks—to make the deliveries harder to defend.

• Quick Combinations: When the winger plays a quick combination, attackers must be ready to support the winger with fast, intelligent movement to create space for the final delivery.

• Finishing in the Box: Attackers should focus on creating a variety of finishing options in the box, such as first-time shots, headers, or controlled finishes, depending on the delivery.

Progression 1: Limit Time for the Cross:

Introduce a time limit of 5 seconds for the winger to deliver the cross once they receive the ball, adding urgency and forcing quicker decision-making.

Focus: Encourages faster thinking and better anticipation from both the winger and the attackers, improving overall attacking tempo and fluidity.
