Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 50x40

  • This drill focuses on a fast-paced 3v2 attacking phase, where the attacking team must quickly create a goal-scoring opportunity. Play starts with a pass from the coach into space, triggering the first 3v2 phase. The attacking team aims to move the ball quickly and efficiently, looking for an opportunity to score.

As soon as the first 3v2 phase concludes (either through a goal or the ball going out of play), the coach plays a second ball into the field, initiating a second 3v2 phase in the opposite direction. The attacking team must quickly shift and adjust to the new phase of play, continuing to focus on speed and decision-making.

  • • Quick Transitions: Emphasize the importance of fast transitions from offense to defense and vice versa. The attacking team must move the ball quickly to break down the defense, while the defenders need to react swiftly and organize themselves when the ball changes direction.

    • Attacking Speed: Encourage the attacking team to play at speed, focusing on quick passes and movement to overload the defenders. The attackers should look for opportunities to exploit space quickly before the defenders can react.

    • Decision Making in Numbers: Stress the importance of making quick decisions in the 3v2 scenario. The attacking team should focus on creating a numerical advantage, while the defenders need to stay organized and compact to limit the attacking options.

    • Anticipation and Communication: In the second 3v2 phase, attackers and defenders must communicate effectively and anticipate the ball’s movement. The attackers should constantly be on the move, and defenders should communicate to ensure they don’t get pulled out of position.

  • Add a Defender to the Box:

Introduce a third defender in the final phase (the defending team will have 3 defenders instead of 2), requiring attackers to work together more effectively and create better overload situations.

Focus: Increases the defensive pressure, forcing the attacking team to improve their combination play and decision-making under pressure.
