Stockholm Inverted Winger Into 4v3
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x30
In this overloaded attacking practice, play begins with an unopposed passing combination involving central players and a wide player. The ball is worked into the winger, who inverts their run inside from the flank to trigger a 4v3 attacking phase toward the main goal. This movement encourages fluid build-up play, intelligent positioning, and quick combination passing in the final third.
The defending team must work cohesively to delay and disrupt the overload. If they win possession, they can immediately transition and break out toward two mini goals positioned on the opposite side of the grid. This provides an opportunity to develop quick counter-attacking instincts and decision-making under pressure.
• Emphasise the timing and angles of the initial combination – Clean, well-timed passes help create rhythm and prepare the wide player to receive on the move and attack space centrally.
• Encourage the winger to drive inward with purpose – Their first touch and body shape should allow for quick penetration, drawing defenders and creating space for teammates.
• Promote intelligent movement from supporting attackers – Players must read the play and adjust positions to offer angles, receive under pressure, and exploit the overload.
• Focus on compact, disciplined defending from the three defenders – Defensive shape, communication, and delaying tactics are key to dealing with the numerical disadvantage effectively.
Add a recovering defender to create a delayed 4v4
Introduce a recovering fourth defender who starts behind the play, arriving late into the phase to balance numbers after a short delay. This tests attackers’ urgency and ability to exploit overloads quickly.
Focus: Improves attacking speed, recognition of momentary advantages, and forces defenders to recover intelligently under pressure.
Add touch limits for attackers during overload
Limit attackers to a maximum of two or three touches each to encourage faster decision-making, cleaner technical execution, and sharper interplay under pressure.
Focus: Enhances tempo of play, supports quicker ball circulation, and challenges players to combine efficiently in tight spaces.
