Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 30x60

  • This drill simulates a pressured build-up from the goalkeeper, focusing on quick decision-making, passing under pressure, and finding space to progress the ball forward. Play starts with the goalkeeper passing to the center-back (CB), who is immediately under pressure from the central forward (CF). The CB must make a quick decision, passing to either the central midfielder (CM) or the right-back (RB), depending on the positioning of the second pressing player.

Once the ball reaches the RB or CM, they must work together to create space and combine effectively to break the defensive line, ultimately aiming to score in the mini goals. This drill encourages precise passing and off-the-ball movement in a pressured environment.

  • • Quick Decision Making: The center-back must make a fast decision under pressure, deciding between the CM or RB based on the positioning of the second pressing player.

    • Spatial Awareness: The CM and RB must be aware of their positioning and work together to create space, making sure to support each other with effective runs and positioning.

    • Pass Accuracy Under Pressure: Players must focus on executing precise passes, even when under pressure from the pressing forward. The CB and the wide players (CM, RB) need to keep composure.

    • Combination Play: The CM and RB must focus on quick, one-touch passing and effective off-the-ball movement to break down the defensive setup and progress the ball forward.

  • Add More Defenders:

Introduce a second forward pressing the ball to make it 2v1 against the center-back. This forces quicker decision-making and increases pressure on the build-up.

Focus: Enhances the ability to play out from pressure, creating better passing lanes and improving tactical awareness.

  • Limit Time for Decisions:

Limit the time the center-back has to make the decision of whom to pass to, encouraging quicker thinking and faster reactions in a high-pressure environment.

Focus: Develops composure under pressure and helps players make faster, more effective decisions in the build-up phase.
