Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 12 | Pitch size: 40x40

  • This fitness rondo is designed to combine high-intensity pressing with technical possession work. Three teams of four players are used, with two teams operating as possession groups in separate grids while the third team acts as the pressing unit. The possession teams aim to circulate the ball under pressure, maintaining control and rhythm while constantly adjusting their positions to support the ball.

The pressing team works continuously, with each player taking turns to sprint into the first grid to win possession before immediately moving into the second grid to repeat the action. As soon as the first grid becomes empty, the next pressing player begins their run, creating a constant cycle of pressing actions. This structure places strong physical demands on the pressing team while maintaining technical focus for the possession players.

  • • Pressing Intensity and Speed:
Encourage pressing players to enter each grid at maximum speed, closing space quickly and applying immediate pressure.

    • Quality of Possession Play:
Reinforce quick passing, good support angles and composure to maintain possession under increasing physical pressure.

    • Transition Between Grids:
Coach pressing players to react instantly after leaving one grid, maintaining intensity and focus when entering the next phase.

    • Communication and Awareness:
Emphasise constant communication between players to manage pressure, support teammates and maintain structure during the practice.

  • Touch Limit for Possession Teams:
Restrict possession players to two touches to increase speed and technical demand under pressure.

    Focus:
Improves ball speed, first-touch quality and decision-making when dealing with intense pressing situations.

  • Time Limit for Pressing Success:
Give pressing players a set time to win possession in each grid before rotating out.

    Focus:
Encourages maximum effort, sharper pressing decisions and sustained intensity throughout the duration of the practice.
