Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 11 | Pitch size: 30x35

  • This possession-based practice involves three teams of three players, along with two neutral joker players who remain in the central grid. Play begins with a 3v1 rondo in one of the end zones. After completing five consecutive passes, the objective is to progress play through the central grid by combining with the jokers, then switch play into the opposite end zone for another 3v1. If the defending team wins possession in the central area, they can break and score into one of two horizontally-placed mini goals. If they regain the ball in an outer grid, they must connect with a teammate inside the central zone.

  • • Passing Angles – Players must constantly adjust their positioning to create forward-facing angles that allow smooth connection through the jokers and into the next zone.

    • Transition Movement – Central jokers and wide players must react instantly during possession changes, either repositioning to offer support or reacting defensively to prevent counters.

    • Ball Speed – All passes, especially those through the central grid, should be played with pace and accuracy to exploit openings before defenders can reset.

    • Defensive Triggers – Defenders should press on visual cues like poor touches, telegraphed passes, or hesitation to increase their chances of regaining possession and countering quickly.

  • One-Touch Limit for Jokers
Restrict the jokers to one-touch passes when linking play between grids.
Focus: Increases demand on timing, positioning, and pass quality from the outside players during transitions.

  • Live Pressure in Central Grid
Allow one defender to enter the central zone and apply pressure while the ball is transitioning through.
Focus: Develops composure, scanning, and quick decision-making under realistic central pressure conditions.
