Instructions/Setup:

This drill combines conditioning with small-sided gameplay to encourage high-intensity work and quick transitions. Play begins with players sprinting across the area and around the poles positioned ahead of them. The sprinting phase is designed to get players moving at maximum speed and focus on conditioning.

Once the players complete the sprint around the poles, the game transitions into a live 3v3 format, where the aim is to score a goal. After each goal, teams reset to their original positions, complete another sprint, and the winning team from the previous game receives the ball to start the next round.

Coaching Notes:

• Maximize Sprinting Effort: Ensure players are sprinting at full intensity, focusing on their speed and quick recovery between phases of play.

• Transition Quickly into Play: After completing the sprint, players must immediately transition into the 3v3 match, focusing on fast decision-making and sharp movements.

• Recovery and Re-focus: Encourage players to focus on their recovery and re-adjustment before the next sprint. This helps them maintain energy and composure for the following game.

• Maintain High Intensity in the Game: In the 3v3 phase, players must continue to work hard, applying pressure, creating space, and using their conditioning to maintain intensity throughout the drill.

Progression 1: Add More Players:

Increase the game size to a 4v4 or 5v5 format to encourage more team play and tactical awareness while still including the conditioning sprint.

Focus: This increases endurance and requires players to think strategically while managing their energy levels.

Progression 2: Add Time Constraints:

Limit the time each team has to score to increase urgency, ensuring that players work at a high tempo throughout both the sprinting and the game phases.

Focus: This encourages players to stay focused on both their physical performance and their ability to execute under pressure.
