Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch

  • This semi-opposed drill features a 4v2 central rondo positioned just outside the penalty area. The aim is for the team in possession to complete five consecutive passes before playing into a centre forward, who is shadow marked by the coach. The forward is restricted to two touches to control and finish. If the defenders win possession during the rondo, they transition quickly to attack either of the two mini goals placed beyond the grid. Players rotate roles throughout to ensure balanced repetition and varied service into the striker.

  • • Quality of Pass – Passes into the forward should be firm, accurate, and timed to exploit the forward’s movement and two-touch limit.

    • Forward Movement – The centre forward must stay alert, using subtle movements to create space and receive under pressure from the shadow defender.

    • Compactness in Possession – The four players should keep tight spacing and circulate the ball quickly to stretch the two defenders and open passing lanes.

    • Transition Mentality – The defending pair must switch quickly from defending to attacking upon winning possession, targeting space beyond the rondo grid.

  • Active Defender on the Forward
Replace the shadow-marking coach with a live defender to apply realistic pressure on the centre forward.
Focus: Tests the forward’s ability to receive and finish quickly under live defensive pressure.

  • One-Touch Finishing
Limit the centre forward to one-touch finishes after receiving the ball.
Focus: Improves timing, anticipation, and striking technique under tight constraints.
