Trondheim Opposed Attacking Patterns
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
In this practice, 5 attackers work through a variety of unopposed passing combinations outside the penalty box to develop sharp movement and precise ball control. These combinations focus on creating space, timing runs, and rehearsing attacking patterns to open defensive gaps effectively. The initial phase allows attackers to build rhythm and chemistry without pressure.
Once the ball enters the penalty box, 2 defenders become active and apply immediate pressure to defend the area. The defenders must organize themselves to block passing lanes and challenge the 2 or 3 attackers trying to penetrate and score, emphasizing defensive positioning and timely interceptions under realistic match conditions.
• Emphasize quick, accurate passing during unopposed phases – This helps attackers maintain possession and create quality scoring opportunities with good tempo and precision.
• Stress effective movement off the ball to create passing lanes – Players should use sharp runs and positioning to open space and confuse defenders.
• Defenders must communicate clearly and maintain compact shape – To efficiently cover dangerous areas and close down attackers with teamwork and anticipation.
• Encourage defenders to delay and force attackers wide inside the box – Applying pressure while guiding attackers away from the central scoring zones.
Add a Third Defender in the Box
Introduce a third defender inside the box to increase defensive pressure, requiring attackers to make quicker decisions and sharper movements.
Focus: Improves attackers’ creativity under pressure and defenders’ coordination and communication.
Limit Attacking Team to Two Touches
Restrict attackers to a maximum of two touches during the unopposed passing phase to speed up play and simulate higher game intensity.
Focus: Develops quick thinking, sharp technical skills, and faster attacking transitions into the box.
