Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 13 | Pitch size: 1/2 Pitch

  • This practice begins with a 3v1 rondo in the first wide-area grid. The attacking trio must work the ball quickly, keeping possession under pressure and completing five passes before they are allowed to progress. Once the pass count is reached, the attackers can break into the second wide grid and immediately continue with another 3v1, again aiming to complete five passes against the single defender.

After successfully completing both rondos, the attackers can exit the wide channel and play into a final unopposed phase. From here, one of the wide players drives forward and delivers a cross into the box, where two attackers position themselves to finish. This sequence links wide-area progression, technical possession play and final-third end product.

  • • Tempo in Tight Spaces: Encourage quick, sharp passing in both rondo grids to maintain control and keep the defender moving.

    • Supporting Angles: Coach the attackers to adjust their positioning constantly—opening passing lanes, creating triangles and supporting the ball-carrier.

    • Timing the Breakout: Highlight the need for coordinated movement when exiting each rondo so players enter the next phase cleanly and with purpose.

    • Quality of Final Ball: Reinforce accurate crossing technique and ensure the two attackers attack different finishing zones inside the box.

  • Reduce the Pass Count:
Lower the required passes from five to three before progressing to the next grid. This speeds up the tempo and increases the demand for quicker combinations.

Focus: Improves urgency, quicker support play and faster transitions between phases.

  • Add a Recovering Defender Into the Final Phase:
Allow a defender from the second rondo grid to recover into the box during the crossing phase. This adds pressure on both the crosser and finishers, increasing realism.

Focus: Enhances crossing precision, movement timing and finishing under defensive pressure.
