Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: 20x20

  • In this 1v1 attacking practice, play begins with the defender passing the ball from behind the attacker into space ahead of them. The attacker must react quickly, sprint onto the ball and take their first touch forward into the playing area. This initial moment encourages attackers to receive on the move while preparing to attack space immediately.

As soon as the attacker takes their first touch, the defender is allowed to sprint forward and apply pressure. The attacker must attempt to beat the defender in a 1v1 scenario and score by dribbling through either of the two mini gates positioned on different sides of the grid. The practice challenges both players to react quickly, with attackers focusing on creativity and defenders working on recovery speed and controlled defensive pressure.

  • Delayed Defender Release:
Allow the attacker an extra step before the defender can begin pressing after the first touch.

    Focus:
Encourages positive attacking play, confidence on the ball and faster attacking decisions in open space.
