Vaduz Finishing Into 1v1
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 40x36
In this attacking practice, two players begin positioned on either side of the goal. The first attacker makes a short run toward a pole positioned on the edge of the penalty area, turning around it before finishing against the goalkeeper. The focus in this phase is on controlled movement, sharp turning technique and composed finishing after a short sprint.
At the same time, the second player performs a longer run, approximately 36 yards, before turning around a second pole and attacking the goal. By the time they enter the attacking area, the first attacker has already taken their shot and must immediately transition into a defensive role, creating a 1v1 scenario between the recovering defender and the second attacker. This phase emphasises attacking under pressure while challenging the defender to recover quickly and delay the finish.
• Turning Technique Around the Pole:
Encourage attackers to use tight, controlled turns to maintain speed and balance before entering the shooting phase.
• Composure in the Initial Finish:
Reinforce calm body shape, controlled touches and accurate finishing despite arriving at speed toward goal.
• Transition from Attack to Defence:
Emphasise immediate reaction after shooting, sprinting back quickly to recover and defend the 1v1 phase.
• 1v1 Attacking Decision-Making:
Coach the second attacker to attack with confidence, using changes of pace and direction to beat the defender.
Limited Touches in the 1v1 Phase:
Restrict the attacking player to a maximum of two or three touches before attempting to score.
Focus:
Improves attacking urgency, sharper decision-making and the ability to execute under defensive pressure and fatigue.
Delayed Defender Start:
Allow the second attacker a small head start before the recovering defender can begin the 1v1 phase.
Focus:
Encourages positive attacking play, quicker finishing decisions and more dynamic recovery defending efforts
