Vaduz Receiving With Pressure
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 30x30
In this receiving under pressure practice, an attacker begins by running into a central grid before receiving a pass from a teammate positioned outside the area. As the ball arrives, the attacker must control the pass and take their first touch either left or right, turning out of the grid to face forward. The objective is then to dribble or pass the ball into a mini goal positioned on the same line from which they originally started, encouraging players to receive with purpose and attack space immediately.
As soon as the pass is played into the grid, the passer becomes the defender and must sprint forward to apply pressure on the receiving player. The defender attempts to close the distance quickly and disrupt the attacker’s first touch or block the pass into the mini goal. This creates a realistic moment of pressure, challenging attackers to control the ball cleanly and execute their next action quickly while defenders focus on reaction speed and pressing technique.
• First Touch Direction:
Encourage attackers to take a purposeful first touch that moves the ball away from pressure and into open space immediately.
• Body Shape When Receiving:
Reinforce opening the body when receiving so players can quickly turn and exit the grid in one smooth movement.
• Speed of Defensive Pressure:
Coach the passer to react immediately, sprinting with urgency and controlled approach to close down effectively.
• Decision Making Under Pressure:
Emphasise quick choices from attackers between dribbling or passing based on defender distance, angle and speed.
Touch Limit Before Finishing:
Restrict attackers to a limited number of touches before they must attempt to score into the mini goal.
Focus:
Improves speed of execution, sharper first touches and quicker attacking decisions while under increasing defensive pressure.
Defender Starts Closer:
Move the defender’s starting position slightly closer to the grid to increase pressure on the receiving player.
Focus:
Challenges attackers to execute cleaner first touches and faster turns while dealing with tighter defensive pressure.
