Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 10x10

  • This technical passing practice is set up as a high-tempo warm-up using two balls simultaneously to maximise repetition and engagement. Players are positioned around the outside of the grid and work through a series of short, sharp passing patterns, constantly receiving and releasing the ball under light pressure. The use of two balls increases scanning demands and keeps players fully alert throughout.

The objective is to circulate both balls at speed while maintaining technical quality, rhythm and accuracy. Players must adjust their body shape to receive on the move, play with minimal touches where possible and remain aware of both passing sequences at all times. The practice is ideal for activating technical sharpness at the start of a session.

  • • Body Shape to Receive: Encourage players to open up when receiving so they can play forward quickly with their first touch.

    • Passing Quality: Reinforce firm, accurate passes into the correct foot based on the receiver’s body position.

    • Scanning and Awareness: Highlight the need for constant head movement due to the presence of two balls operating at the same time.

    • Tempo and Rhythm: Emphasise maintaining a high speed of movement while staying composed and technically clean.

  • Mandatory Two-Touch Play:
All players must now take a minimum of two touches on every reception—one to control and one to pass. This forces players to focus on the quality and direction of the first touch before executing the next pass, rather than rushing the action.

Focus: Improves first-touch quality, ball control under tempo, and accuracy of the follow-up pass.
