Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x36

  • Set on a 30x36 yard small-sided pitch, this dynamic drill features continuous 2v2 attacking phases played end to end. Two attackers work together to break down the defense and score in either the top or bottom goal. Meanwhile, two defenders are assigned to defend the top goal and two others defend the bottom goal continuously, maintaining defensive shape and pressure.

Outside the grid, two additional attackers provide service by playing balls into the active attackers inside the pitch. As soon as the attacking pair fails to score or loses possession, they immediately switch roles with the defending team, keeping the drill fast-paced and conditioning-focused.

  • • Encourage attackers to use quick combination play and movement to create scoring chances – Effective communication and timing between attackers are essential to break down well-organized defenses.

    • Stress disciplined defensive positioning for defenders protecting each goal – Defenders must maintain shape, anticipate attacker runs, and close down passing lanes promptly.

    • Emphasise quick transitions between attack and defense during switches – Players need to mentally and physically reset rapidly to maintain high intensity throughout the drill.

    • Reinforce accurate and well-timed service from outside attackers – Precise delivery is crucial to allow attackers inside the grid to control and exploit scoring opportunities effectively.

  • Limit attackers to two touches maximum

Restrict attackers to two touches per possession to increase pace, force quicker decisions, and improve technical sharpness under pressure.

Focus: Develops rapid technical execution, sharper decision-making, and improved teamwork during fast transitions.
