Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 12 | Pitch size: 40x40

  • This technical rondo focuses on switching the point of attack quickly and effectively across two grids. The drill starts with a 4v2 rondo in one grid where the attacking team maintains possession against two defenders. To progress play, attackers must switch the ball to the opposite grid by either penetrating the central line—guarded by the two defending players—or by switching play around the central line to two wide players positioned in boxes on the far side. These wide players are part of the opposite grid, creating a dynamic interplay between both areas.

The drill develops quick decision-making, accurate passing under pressure, spatial awareness, and the ability to switch play efficiently to exploit defensive weaknesses.

  • • Stress quick, precise passing to maintain possession and exploit switching opportunities – Players must use sharp vision and technique to break the defensive lines effectively.

    • Encourage defenders to anticipate and guard the central line tightly – Defenders need to communicate and position well to cut off penetrating passes and force wider switches.

    • Emphasise timing and communication when switching play to wide players – Attackers must coordinate runs and passes to exploit space on the opposite grid efficiently.

    • Reinforce body positioning and first touch quality when receiving the ball in tight spaces – Players should prepare to quickly control and redirect the ball to keep possession flowing.

  • Limit attackers to two touches maximum

Restrict attackers to two touches to increase the speed of play, forcing quicker decisions and more accurate passing under pressure.

Focus: Enhances technical precision, faster decision-making, and sharper awareness in high-pressure possession scenarios.
