Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 15x15

  • This continuous 1v1 drill features two teams positioned on opposite sides of the grid: one team occupies the bottom and right sides, while the other occupies the left and top sides. The first team attacks horizontally across the grid in a 1v1 to score in a mini goal. Once the attack is complete, the other team immediately attacks vertically 1v1 toward their own mini goal.

The drill promotes quick transitions between attack and defense, challenging players to win duels under pressure and adapt rapidly to changing angles of attack. The constant switching keeps intensity high and encourages sharp decision-making and conditioning.

  • • Encourage explosive first touches and sharp turns – Players must control the ball efficiently and quickly create separation from their opponent with clever movement and agility.

    • Demand aggressive but controlled dribbling in tight spaces – Attacking players should use feints, changes of pace, and body positioning to beat defenders while maintaining possession.

    • Reinforce defensive anticipation and positioning – Defenders need to stay balanced, anticipate attacker’s moves early, and use angles to force mistakes or regain possession.

    • Emphasize quick recovery and readiness after each duel – Both attackers and defenders must stay mentally alert, preparing immediately for the next challenge to maintain drill rhythm and intensity.

  • Add a 5-Second Time Limit to Score

Attackers must attempt to score within 5 seconds of starting their run, increasing urgency and forcing quicker decision-making and execution under pressure.

Focus: Improves speed of thought and action, pushing players to be decisive and clinical in tight timeframes with rapid reaction to defender’s positioning.
