Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 40x36

  • This unopposed finishing drill focuses on quick passing combinations and finishing under minimal pressure. The setup consists of two 18-yard boxes with two goals positioned opposite each other. One team will shoot into one goal, while the other team will shoot into the opposite goal. Each team has a player positioned on the center line who plays a 1-2 combination with the shooter, who then becomes the player on the center line after completing their finish.

The drill emphasizes timing, communication, and finishing accuracy after receiving a well-timed pass.

  • • Quick Passing: Players should focus on making accurate and quick passes during the 1-2 combination. Ensure that the player receiving the ball on the center line times their movement well to meet the pass and create a clean shooting opportunity.

    • Composed Finishing: After receiving the ball from the center line, the shooter should remain composed and focus on their technique when finishing, whether it's with a volley, header, or controlled finish.

    • Fluid Movement: The shooter should maintain fluid movement, immediately transitioning to the center line after their shot. This quick change ensures constant activity and keeps the drill moving at a high pace.

    • Proper Follow-Through: Emphasize the importance of a proper follow-through after the shot. Players should finish with their head over the ball, ensuring clean contact and accuracy when striking.

  • Add a Defender:

Introduce a defender in the shooting area, challenging the shooter to finish under minimal pressure while maintaining focus on the 1-2 combination.

Focus: This progression simulates match scenarios, where players must react quickly to pass and finish under slightly more realistic pressure.

  • Vary the Passing Angle:

Vary the angles from which the center line player delivers the pass, encouraging the shooter to adapt their positioning and movement to receive and finish from different situations.

Focus: This progression helps players become more versatile in their finishing ability, preparing them for a variety of in-game scenarios where they might need to adjust their positioning.
