Vitesse Finishing the Attack 2v2

Instructions/Setup:

This drill focuses on switching play quickly and creating goal-scoring opportunities from wide areas. Play starts with an unopposed switch from the winger to the central midfielder, who then passes it back out to the winger. The winger will then deliver a cross into the box, where a 2v2 situation unfolds as the two attacking players attempt to finish the ball into the goal.

After each rep, the players quickly swap ends and repeat the process in the opposite goal, simulating game-like transitions and improving both crossing accuracy and finishing under pressure.

Coaching Notes:

• Quick and Accurate Passing: Focus on quick, precise passing when switching play from the winger to the central midfielder and back. The speed and accuracy of the ball movement are crucial for breaking down the defense.

• Timing the Cross: The winger must time the cross perfectly, ensuring that the ball is delivered into the path of the attackers making their runs. Focus on crossing with both pace and accuracy to allow attackers to finish under less pressure.

• Movement in the Box: The attackers need to time their runs into the box and look to exploit space created by the cross. Good timing and positioning are key to getting on the end of the ball.

• Composed Finishing: Attackers should remain calm and composed when finishing the cross, choosing the best technique based on the situation, such as a volley, header, or controlled finish.

Progression 1: Add a Defender to the 2v2:

Introduce a defender into the 2v2 scenario, increasing the pressure on the attackers and forcing them to make quicker decisions in the box.

Focus: This progression works on decision-making and the ability to finish under pressure with defensive pressure in the box.
