Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 40x50

  • In this drill, play begins with a 3v2 attacking phase inside the grid where the three attackers work together to create scoring chances against two defenders. The attackers should focus on quick, precise passing and intelligent movement to exploit the numerical advantage and find space to attack.

After the first phase ends, two wide players enter the grid with a ball to attack the opposite end in a 4v3 scenario. The original 3 attackers from the first phase must quickly transition into defenders to stop the new attackers, creating a dynamic shift that tests players’ ability to switch roles and maintain intensity throughout continuous play.

  • • Encourage sharp, dynamic passing to exploit the 3v2 advantage – Players must maintain good body positioning and quick ball circulation to break down the defense effectively.

    • Stress defenders’ communication and coordinated positioning – Defenders should stay compact, anticipate passes, and apply pressure together to limit attackers’ options.

    • Emphasize quick transition from attack to defense – Players must react immediately to role changes, staying mentally and physically prepared for defensive duties.

    • Reinforce off-the-ball movement and spatial awareness – Attackers should use clever runs to create space while defenders must close passing lanes and mark tightly.

  • Add a Neutral Player for Attackers

Add a neutral player who always supports the attacking team in both phases, increasing passing options and encouraging quicker decision-making and movement.

Focus: Boost attacking creativity and overloads, enhancing players’ ability to read the game and make smart choices under pressure.

  • Touch Restriction

Limit attackers to a maximum of two touches in both the 3v2 and 4v3 phases to encourage faster play and improved ball control under pressure.

Focus: Develop technical precision and speed of execution, fostering quick thinking and sharper passing in tight spaces.
