Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 50x30

  • Play starts with 4 players attacking in a 4v2 setup on one side of the grid, working to create a goal-scoring opportunity. The attacking team looks to score by combining and exploiting the space, while the defending team aims to prevent a shot on goal. If the attackers manage to get a shot off or score, they quickly return to the central line and switch to the opposite side to begin a new 4v2.

The defending team’s goal is to win possession and then transition quickly to the opposite side by switching play and becoming the new attacking team. The drill focuses on attacking movement, quick transitions, and defensive pressure.

  • • Attacking Runs: Encourage attackers to make intelligent runs into space to create passing options. Timing of the runs is crucial to breaking down the defense.

    • Defensive Shape: Defenders should maintain a compact shape and communicate well to limit the attacking team's options. Quick pressure on the ball is essential to forcing mistakes.

    • Quick Transition: Once possession is won, the defending team should look to switch the play quickly and create an overload in the opposite 4v2. Speed in transition is key to exploiting the attacking team while they are disorganized.

    • Finishing: The attackers should be encouraged to take shots early and make quick decisions in front of goal. Focus on quality of finishing and making the most of goal-scoring opportunities.

  • Add Additional Defenders:

To increase the difficulty, add an extra defender to the defensive team (making it 4v3). This challenges the attacking team to be more creative and precise in their passing and movement.

Focus: The added defender forces the attacking team to be quicker and more efficient in their play, testing their ability to find space and make accurate passes.

  • Limit the Number of Passes:

Impose a limit on the number of passes the attacking team can make before taking a shot. This progression emphasizes quick decision-making and finishing under pressure.

Focus: This restriction forces attackers to think faster, focusing on efficiency and precision in the build-up play.
