Wales Finishing Under Pressure 2v2
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 40x50
In this finishing under pressure drill, play starts with a pass between teammates where the receiving player must quickly turn and shoot while facing intense pressure from two recovering defenders closing down rapidly. The attacker needs to maintain composure and technique despite tight defensive pressure to create a clear scoring opportunity.
Immediately after the shot, the two recovering defenders transition into attackers and quickly launch an attack against the opposite goal in a fast-paced 2v2 scenario. This continuous flow trains players to finish under pressure and seamlessly switch roles between defense and attack, simulating realistic game transitions.
• Stress quick, controlled first touches to enable rapid turning and acceleration – This helps players create space and maintain attacking momentum effectively, even under intense defensive pressure.
• Encourage players to use feints and body positioning in tight 1v1s – To deceive defenders, create clear shooting lanes, and gain an advantage by manipulating defensive reactions.
• Remind defenders to maintain low, balanced stances and stay patient before committing – This allows better reaction to attacker’s moves, reducing chances of being beaten, and improves defensive timing significantly.
• Emphasize composure and accuracy when finishing in tight spaces – Players should focus on precision to consistently score under pressure, balancing placement and shot power carefully.
Defenders Start Further Back
Position recovering defenders further from the attackers at the start, increasing attackers’ time and space to finish but requiring defenders to close down quickly.
Focus: Improves attackers’ spatial awareness and decision-making while enhancing defenders’ recovery speed and pressing efficiency.
Add Touch Limit on Attackers
Limit attackers to a maximum of two touches before shooting to increase pace and force quicker decision-making under pressure.
Focus: Develops technical sharpness, quick thinking, and composure during high-pressure finishing situations.
