Wales Overlapping Passing
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: X
In this unopposed passing and mastery drill, players form a circle with one player positioned in the middle with the ball. The ball carrier will pass to an outside player, who then passes to the player on their right. After making the pass, the outside player will overlap, receive the ball back, and become the new inside player. The original inside player then moves to take the place of the outside player.
This drill encourages precise passing, timing of movements, and improving technical skills in a dynamic and fluid pattern. It allows players to practice passing accuracy, receiving, and overlapping movements while staying engaged in the activity.
• Passing Precision: Emphasize the importance of accurate and well-timed passes. The ball should be played firmly but at the correct pace to ensure smooth transitions.
• Timing of the Overlap: The overlapping player must time their run to perfection, ensuring they are in the right position to receive the return pass.
• Receiving on the Move: Encourage players to receive the ball on the move, using their first touch to set themselves up for the next pass.
• Quick Transitions: Once the pass is made, the inside player must transition quickly into the outside role, while the outside player moves into the center, ensuring fluidity and minimal downtime.
Add a Second Ball:
Introduce a second ball into the drill, with another set of players passing in the opposite direction. This progression increases the intensity and improves players' ability to maintain focus and control under more pressure.
Focus: Players must keep their concentration high and make quicker decisions, while maintaining control and accuracy with multiple passes happening simultaneously.
Add Movement with No Ball:
To increase the intensity, ask the players to perform a certain movement (e.g., a quick sprint or a change of direction) before they pass the ball. This variation enhances the drill's fitness aspect and simulates real-game scenarios where players are constantly moving.
Focus: This progression encourages players to incorporate more dynamic movements into their passing, improving their agility, fitness, and awareness.
