Warsaw Finishing From Cutbacks
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This drill develops players’ ability to switch the ball quickly and accurately from one side of the penalty area to the other, encouraging good ball circulation and creating space in wide areas. Players work on maintaining possession with crisp passing, focusing on moving the ball from side to side outside the box to manipulate defensive shape and open passing lanes.
The final pass is a penetrative through ball played into a winger on the opposite side, who immediately delivers a first-time cut-back cross into the half space. Attackers time their runs to exploit this space and receive the cut-back for an unopposed finish inside the box. This practice sharpens the timing and execution of attacking runs and crossing, improving the ability to create and finish goal-scoring chances from wide positions.
• Encourage Quick, Accurate Switching of Play to Create Space – Players must focus on crisp, well-weighted passes combined with clear communication to effectively shift the defense and open passing lanes.
• Stress Precision and Timing of the Penetrative Pass Behind Defenders – The final through ball must be perfectly weighted and timed to allow the winger to receive the ball in stride and maintain attacking momentum.
• Promote First-Time Cut-Back Crosses with Proper Weight and Accuracy – The winger’s delivery needs to be fast, precise, and measured to catch defenders off guard and create clear goal-scoring opportunities.
• Focus on Well-Timed Runs Into the Half Space by Attackers – Attackers should coordinate their movements carefully to exploit the space created by the switch and arrive in the optimal position to finish confidently.
Include a Second Attacker for Near-Post Options
Add a second attacker making near-post runs, creating multiple crossing options and forcing the winger to read the defense and choose the best delivery.
Focus: Enhances attacking creativity, increases finishing variations, and encourages precise reading of defensive positioning for optimal crossing choices.
