Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This drill focuses on attacking combinations around the penalty area with the aim of developing sharp, quick interplay to create clear scoring opportunities. Players will work together to execute purposeful passing sequences and movement patterns to break down the defense before finishing in the main goal against a goalkeeper, honing their timing and precision in the final third.
The drill then immediately transitions to a second phase starting from behind the goalkeeper’s goal, where players quickly build play upfield with quick passing and movement. This phase culminates in a penetrative pass into one of two mini goals, encouraging players to improve their vision and accuracy in delivering decisive final passes under match-like tempo.
• Emphasize Sharp, Quick Combinations in Tight Spaces to Break Defenses – Players must focus on clean first touches and rapid decision-making to maintain rhythm and outmaneuver defenders effectively.
• Encourage Awareness and Movement Off the Ball to Create Passing Lanes – Intelligent positioning and timely runs are crucial for opening space and supporting teammates during the attacking phase.
• Stress Composure and Accuracy in Finishing Against the Goalkeeper – Players should maintain calm under pressure to execute precise and confident shots on target.
• Promote Quick Transition and Intelligent Passing from Behind the Goal – The second phase requires sharp vision and timing to release accurate penetrative passes to the mini goals quickly.
Alternate Starting Sides Behind the Goal
Switch the starting position behind the goalkeeper’s goal to the opposite side to challenge players’ adaptability and encourage using both feet and varied passing angles.
Focus: Develops versatility in attack, improves weak foot passing and finishing, and sharpens spatial awareness across different field orientations.
