Warsaw Recovery Defending 1v1
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This drill focuses on the attacker receiving a pass just outside the box and making a forward run into the box with the objective of scoring. The attacker is immediately pressured by a recovering defender who must sprint around two poles positioned before the box. The defender’s challenge is to complete this high-intensity recovery run quickly enough to close down the attacker and engage in a 1v1 duel inside the box. This setup develops the attacker’s ability to manage pressure and finish under duress while improving the defender’s recovery speed and timing.
• Emphasize Explosive First Touch and Acceleration by the Attacker – The attacker’s ability to control the pass and accelerate quickly can create crucial separation before defensive pressure arrives.
• Encourage Defenders to Maintain High Intensity on Recovery Runs – Defenders should push their pace around the poles to close down the attacker as fast as possible while maintaining balance.
• Promote Decision-Making in Tight 1v1 Situations – Both attacker and defender must make quick, intelligent choices to beat their opponent or prevent a goal.
• Focus on Composure and Precision in Finishing Under Pressure – Attackers need to stay calm and select their shot carefully to convert despite the defender’s close presence.
Introduce a Passive Second Defender
Add a second defender who starts passive but can join the 1v1 if the first defender delays recovery.
Focus: Improves attacker’s ability to handle layered defensive pressure and decision-making in more complex scenarios.
