Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 40x36

  • Set up two 18-yard boxes facing each other with a goal and goalkeeper at either end, creating a small-sided game-style pitch. Each goalkeeper starts the practice by passing into a group of three central players positioned in front of them. There are two mirrored groups of three players, one for each goalkeeper.

The three central players work together using quick, fluid, one-touch combinations to break forward and finish into the goal opposite to where the ball was served from. The emphasis is on movement, awareness, and clinical end product following fast build-up play.

  • • Encourage the receiving player to set a firm, clean first touch that invites the next combination pass immediately.

    • Focus on sharp one-touch play, clever angles, and intelligent supporting runs to create space within tight areas.

    • Demand quality final passes into shooting positions, with players timing their movement to strike the ball cleanly.

    • Reinforce constant communication and visual scanning between players to anticipate the next action under pressure.

    • Highlight the importance of quick recovery and resetting after finishing to maintain the flow and tempo of the practice.

  • Introduce Passive Defenders

Add a passive defender between each group of three to apply light pressure and force quicker combinations under realistic conditions.

Focus: Improving ball speed, decision-making, and player movement to operate effectively under limited time and space.

  • Transition After Shot

After a shot is taken, the shooter must immediately sprint and pressure the goalkeeper about to start the next repetition.

Focus: Building a transition mentality, encouraging quick recovery, and adding intensity to both attacking and defensive actions.
