Instructions/Setup:

This small sided game features a continuous 4v2 practice in a tight space, with the addition of an offside line. The attacking players (4) must make well-timed runs and movements to receive the ball in front of goal, avoiding the offside line while looking for scoring opportunities.

If the attacking team scores, they will continue play with a new ball. However, if they fail to score, the attacking players will switch to become the defending team. Two players will defend, and the other two players will position themselves off the field to maintain the flow of the game.

Coaching Notes:

• Timing of Runs: Attackers must be aware of the offside line and time their runs accordingly. Encourage players to make quick, direct runs into space while staying onside.

• Ball Movement: Quick and accurate passing is crucial to create space for attackers. The player in possession must be decisive, looking for opportunities to play a through ball or quick pass into space.

• Defensive Positioning: Defenders must work together to limit attacking space, stay compact, and communicate effectively. When switching to defense, they should immediately organize themselves and block passing lanes.

• Transition Speed: After a failed attack, emphasize the importance of quickly transitioning between attack and defense. Defenders must be quick to press and regain possession, while attackers should be ready to make runs again once they get the ball.

Progression 1: Introduce Time Limit:

Add a time limit (e.g., 20 seconds) for the attacking team to score. This will encourage faster decision-making and increase the intensity of the practice.

Focus: Speed of play, timing of runs, and quick decision-making under pressure.

Progression 2: Add More Defenders:

Introduce a second defending pair (2v4) for a brief period, increasing the challenge for the attacking team. This progression will force attackers to be even more precise with their movements and passing.

Focus: Improving attacking play under pressure, with emphasis on maintaining composure and working as a team to create scoring chances.
