Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 11 | Pitch size: 45x30

  • Set up a rondo grid divided vertically into three zones: top, middle, and bottom. The top and bottom zones have structured possession play with defenders applying pressure. The middle zone acts as a free play transfer zone, where players have more freedom to dribble, pass, or combine to progress the ball through under pressure.

Players in the middle zone face significant pressure but are encouraged to use creativity and quick decision-making to either carry the ball forward or find passing options to connect the top and bottom zones. The overall aim is to maintain possession and progress the ball vertically through the three zones with fluid ball circulation and movement.

  • • Use of Space in Middle Zone – Encourage players to exploit the freer, more open middle zone by dribbling or quick passing to break lines under pressure.

    • Body Positioning – Players in all zones should position themselves to receive with an open body to maximize vision and passing options.

    • Support and Movement – Continuous off-ball movement is key to create passing lanes, especially around the middle zone where pressure is highest.

    • Decision Making Under Pressure – Players must quickly assess whether to dribble, pass short, or switch play to maintain possession and progress vertically.

  • Limit Touches in the Middle Zone
Introduce a 2-touch maximum rule in the middle zone to speed up play and encourage sharper passing and quicker decisions under pressure.

    Focus:
Improves technical precision and rapid decision-making when pressured in transitional areas.
