Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 40x36

  • This is a high-intensity reactions and 1v1 drill designed to simulate quick transitions between phases of play. Two players start by sprinting across the grid and playing a ball into a mini goal, testing their reaction speed, awareness, and technical quality. Immediately after this initial phase, they must spin and react quickly as the coach plays a new ball into the grid, sparking a live 1v1 duel.

The drill is designed to sharpen players' transitional speed, agility, and mindset—quickly shifting from a technical action into a competitive 1v1 situation that demands both physical and mental sharpness.

  • • Highlight the importance of explosive reactions and intensity in the sprint – Quick transitions simulate match demands and raise overall engagement levels early in the drill.

    • Emphasize clean technique and focus when playing into the mini goal – Accuracy and control should remain consistent even at high speeds and under fatigue.

    • Promote sharp directional changes when transitioning into the 1v1 – Efficient body movement helps players recover quickly and engage in the duel effectively.

    • Encourage creativity and confidence on the ball during the 1v1 – Players should use feints, changes of pace, and direct play to create an advantage.

  • Increase distance before turning for 1v1

Extend the initial sprint or angle it diagonally to make the recovery and 1v1 more physically demanding, replicating realistic recovery movements.

Focus: Improves recovery speed, fitness under pressure, and sharpens 1v1 engagement from varied distances and angles.
