Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 20x25

  • This is an unopposed technical activation passing practice designed to focus on timing of runs, movement coordination, and passing accuracy. Players begin by circulating the ball across the grid before playing a well-timed pass between mannequins to simulate breaking the defensive line.

The receiving player must time their run to remain onside while still breaking through the defensive shape at speed. After receiving, they finish into a mini goal, simulating a game-like attacking sequence that emphasizes decision-making and movement off the ball.

  • • Ensure players scan before passing to recognize best moment to release – This improves visual awareness and prevents rushed or mistimed forward passes.

    • Focus on correct weight and angle of pass through mannequins – This helps simulate splitting defenders with game-relevant diagonal through balls into key areas.

    • Encourage receiving players to arc their runs to remain onside – Sharp curved movements help mimic realistic attacking runs behind a defensive back line.

    • Promote clean, composed finishing into mini goals after timed runs – The end product must reflect control, timing, and purpose under light game pressure.

  • Add a passive defender near the mannequins

Introduce a passive defender positioned between the mannequins to make timing and execution more game realistic and force precise execution of the pass.

Focus: Sharpens timing, awareness of space, and encourages disguise in the final pass release.
